PETITIONS – Howie has required number, but still needs extra to be safe, should also be able to get enough for Seal, but won’t have many extra, David is in pretty good shape, but still needs more. Gary and Cosmo both need a lot more. 2 weeks left. We also need help checking signatures and proofing petitions. Jess will call Jed, Howie will call Mark Naef and Larry Rugledge. Latino festival is next weekend. David L. thinks we can table with a friend of his, Maddie will try to come down. Garry will see if Shirley Novak can help him. Hiroshima/Nagasaki procession is tomorrow, Howie will try to go.
FUNDRAISING – Madelaine has been in touch w/Elaine Brown’s campaign manager. Syr/Alb Greens will try to collaborate to bring Elaine up here. Need to find a venue, can do a speaking gig/book signing. Potential dates Sept. 10 or 24, need to check out SU football schedule. SU plays Buffalo at SU on the 10th. 24th is day of the antiwar demo. Should we look for an weekday date? Howie will check in with Alice Green (Albany candidate) to see what days would be best and we’ll look for 2 days in Sept. after Labor Day. We’ll try the week after the antiwar demos or the week after the Westcott Street Fair (9/18). Madelaine will contact Elaine’s campaign to confirm a date. Should we do another pancake breakfast? Can’t do anything else until after petitions are filed. Maybe Sept 10? Gary met someone supportive who offered to let him use a VFW for fundraising.
CAMPAIGN ORGANIZATION – We talked about applying to national for funding, part to be used to fund positions. Which positions do we want? Should we reimburse for mileage? Message went out to listserve announcing potential positions and asking interested people to contact us. We should think about whether we want to try to work together with Working Families Party to support Get Out the Vote operations for all the progressive independent candidates. Positions will be for Sept-1st week of Nov (about 10 weeks) - about $1500. Will depend on who steps forward and what their skills and experience are. Probably will need some sort of liaison with coordinating committee to ensure things are getting done, etc. Jess will call Peter Pedemonti to see if he can recommend anyone.
KENNEDY CLUB EVENT – invited Howie to speak. Can schedule other candidates if desired. Need to email them. Howie and Jess will follow up.
GEORGE GALLOWAY – Jess talked to Virginia and Frederic. Frederic had called SPC about helping to organize an event. Galloway wants housing and transportation paid and $3-5000 honorarium if possible. Jess is contacting Colgate, Hamilton and HWS to see if any can sponsor a talk and pay the fee which would allow us to organize second Syracuse event that we could benefit from. Will check in to see if anyone’s interested. May not be worth it to us to organize otherwise, unless Galloway is willing to just come and split the proceeds of an event with us.
