He may not have had much of a chance to win, but Howie Hawkins is pleased with his showing at the polls in the Syracuse Mayoral race. The Green party candidate says he may not have won the office, but feels he did win on the issues.
He says his party's three major issues, public power, an expanded living wage and sustainable Syracuse, will now be taken more seriously by the Mayor and the Common Council.
"As time went on I was going up in the polls, as time went on more people were finding out what we stood for and more people were getting behind us and we were building momentum," said Hawkins. "So if the election was a month or two down the road, I might have caught up with the other two."
Hawkins says he stuck to the issues and offered viable solutions. He adds that he definitely won more votes per dollar spent than the other two candidates.
