"War in Iraq and the 2006 Elections"
Thursday, March 2, 7:00 to 9:00 pm
Westcott Community Center, corner of Euclid and Westcott, Syracuse
Did you give George Bush any standing ovations during his State of the Union speech?
Hillary Clinton, Dianne Feinstein, and John Kerry gave him 20!
Are you fed up with the "bipartisan consensus" for militarism, repression, and war at the expense of our jobs, schools, health, and environment? Why don't we have an opposition party in this country?
Todd Chretien, the Green Party candidate for US Senate in California (www.todd4senate.org), will explain why Democratic senators like Dianne Feinstein and Hillary Clinton support Bush's war in Iraq, why the anti-war movement needs a political alternative, and how it is being built in California, where Chretien helped author and organized Proposition I (the College Not Combat initiative) that passed with 60% of the vote in San Francisco on November 8.
Howie Hawkins, the 2005 Green Party candidate for mayor of Syracuse, will draw lessons from 1968 and 2004, showing how the anti-war movement got different results from different strategies toward the two pro-war major-party candidates for President.
Discussion will follow the presentations.
