Campaign School, Black Panther Memoir Talk this Sunday, Action for GMO labeling

There is a lot going on with the Green Party of New York (GPNY) and we are going to do our best to keep you updated on ways to participate and take action. Below is info about an upcoming Campaign School happening in Syracuse, a call for candidates, an invitation to a special Black History Month event in Syracuse with Aaron Dixon, Black Panther and former Green Party candidate, and an action from the GMO labeling campaign.

This Winter, GPNY is engaging in a fund-raising campaign to help strengthen our party's capacity in a critical election year. One of our goals this year is to raise enough funds to hire a staff person to help us fulfill our potential as an independent grassroots political party. Please make a one time donation or become a “supporting member" who makes regular contributions. Whatever you do, please donate today and help our party grow! - Ursula

The Green Party is looking for statewide candidates, such as for governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general and comptroller - as well as candidates for Congress and the state legislature. Every Congressional and state legislature race give potential Green candidates the chance to inject progressive tax reform, banning fracking, a climate action plan, public campaign financing, job creation, education, single-payer healthcare, marijuana legalization, and peace into the public debate and to engage voters on issues that matter. The Campaign Committee of the Green Party of New York State can give you a detailed understanding of the process and advise you on how to successfully get your campaign up and running. Sunday, March 23, 5pm, Fountain of Life Church, 700 South Ave. Syracuse NY

In an era of stark racial injustice and decisive action, Aaron Dixon dedicated his life to the struggle for change, founding the Seattle chapter of the Black Panther Party in 1968 at age nineteen. Dixon is on a Northeast tour speaking about his book, "My People Are Rising: a Memoir of a Black Panther Party Captain." Co-sponsored by the Syracuse Peace Council, the Syracuse Greens and the Pan African Community of CNY. RSVP and spread the word via the Facebook event page.

The Green Party of New York is a proud member of the NY GE Labeling campaign. Sign the petition online or download the paper version of this petition here. We have a right to know about the food we eat and feed to our families, but we don't have that ability when it comes to genetically engineered (GE) foods.

* 93% of Americans say they want GMOs labeled

* 64 countries around the world, representing over half the global population, already label GMO foods

A few days ago the New York Farm Bureau - which is staunchly opposed to labeling and has very close ties to the biotech industry - launched an attack on the GMO labeling bill filled with misinformation. For example, they imply farmers will have reduced access to GE seeds and farming techniques, which is a FLAT-OUT LIE. Bill A.3525/S.3835 is simply for the labeling of GMO foods.

Let's counteract their false messaging ASAP. PHONE AND EMAIL your district Assembly-member and Senator to ask them to support the GMO Labeling bill.  Find your Assembly-member:  Find your Senator:

Let's use our Green networks to help pass GMO labeling in NY this year! For more information on how you can bring this campaign to your community, contact Frank, [email protected] or Ursula[email protected]

As a political party we work to establish political action based on cooperation, rather than exploitation, on conservation rather than consumption, and on sustainability rather than short-term gain. We believe in an alternative, independent politics.
